My most recent project was a black walnut under-projector console, to support my new sound bar. It’s all solid wood, 6 feet wide given how large my Sonos Arc Ultra is!
In total it took me around ~45 hours to complete. I think a lot of extra time is spent on moving tools / unpacking my workbench given I don’t have a dedicated workshop space. That’s maybe on the list for another day.
I made this from 8′ long lumber so I could get a “waterfall” style grain continuation from the top onto the sides:

The constructed was fairly simple, it just needed a table saw, router, orbital sander and a Kreg hinge jig.
Materials:
- 40 board foot of black walnut ($350 USD)
- Blum Clip top BLUMOTION Soft Close Hinges ($50 USD)
- Finishing: Natura Onecoat ($50 USD)
- 3M 120 + 220 grit sandpaper
- Tightbond II wood glue
- 12 dowels
If anyone is extra curious in making something similar, I’ve uploaded my Sketch file
